Games that will Define this Generation
10 CommentsPosted by Joe Garcia on August 31, 2010 under Featured Articles, PS3 Features, PlayStation 3
Every single video game generation has had its watershed moments that people point back to when they discuss them at any length, for better or worse. Super Mario Bros. on the NES revived an industry that E.T. for the Atari 2600 had left for dead. Sonic the Hedgehog on the Genesis/Mega Drive spawned the first legitimate console war across school yards everywhere. An ill-advised betrayal spawned Nin... more. -
The Most Overrated Franchises this Generation

Ever since the launch of Microsoft's Xbox 360, Sony's PlayStation 3 and Nintendo's Wii, the gaming industry has seen a crazy amount of overrated activity from media sources, gamers, and retail employees. I'd be willing to bet a lot of money that this generation has "sold out" to the whores of the industry more-so than any other and it's getting to be a little much. Gone are the days of when great ... more. -

And so here it is - the second and final part of our interview with our dear friends (and heroes) Naughty Dog. The studio's brought us the delights of Crash Bandicoot, Jak & Daxter and most recently Uncharted. They're at the top of their game on the PlayStation 3, and we hope their success continues. Our chat travels from talk about what's next for the Uncharted series, the Uncharted movie,... more. -
Back to School Gaming that Doesn’t Suck

I just spent over three hours of my day on Monday registering for classes for the fall semester, which means that my summer comes to an abrupt end on August 24th. Those also going to college will start again around the same time, or maybe even unlucky enough to have already started. A crappy time, indeed. That's why video games are so great; in these virtual worlds, school doesn't have to suck.... more. -
Naughty Dog talks with PlayStation University: Part 1

Earlier in the year we asked you for your questions to be sent to Naughty Dog. We had a huge response and so since then the Uncharted developer and myself have been sifting through the questions to produce an epic interview that's so long, we've had to split it into two parts. This is part one, where we talk to Naughty Dog's Community Strategist Arne Meyer about Uncharted 2's success, the studi... more. -
Games you will never, ever Platinum

Ah, trophy whoring. While I've never obsessed over the fake-but-totally-real little awards packed into games enough to hunt down a copy of the Hannah Montana movie tie-in, I'll definitely go after platinum trophies if they're reasonably attainable. A couple of weeks ago I got the platinum trophies for Assassin's Creed II and Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, with the latter being the easiest ... more. -
Overused Gaming Buzzwords
7 CommentsPosted by Joe Garcia on July 16, 2010 under PS3 Features, PlayStation 3
With every generation of games it seems that game companies throw around a bunch of important-sounding but ultimately meaningless words meant to coerce unsuspecting consumers into buying whatever they happen to be peddling at the time. Try as I might to forget, the words “virtual reality” were thrown around a lot during the early ‘90s. Unfortunately this led to Nintendo releasing the Virtual... more. -

Now that E3 is in the books and gamers finally have a better idea of what to expect out of their PlayStation 3s, Xbox 360s and Nintendo Wiis, it goes without saying that a lot of wallets are going to be drained this second half of the year. One of the best ways to afford all of those great upcoming titles and one of the best ways to pick up titles that released earlier this year is to check out yo... more. -

You like video games, right? That's why you're here, after all. That's what makes E3 so special for all of us -- it's gamer Christmas. Who's going to give you the present you didn't even know you wanted? Conversely, who plays the weird aunt that gives you irregular underwear? Well, as the one and only Kevin Butler so eloquently put it during Sony's conference, in the end we're all gamers and th... more. -
E3 2010, Day Two – Sony Keynote Hits & Misses

Just like that, we're all out of E3 conferences. Sony and Nintendo both had impressive showings that really put Microsoft to shame, but it shouldn't be too difficult to figure out which conference we'll be putting our focus on. I expected to have quite a few more misses, if only because I was nervous about Move after the terrible showing Kinect had at Microsoft's show yesterday. Turns out that Son... more. -
